Step 4. How to resource the running of your scheme?

Volunteers only

The method of running a car sharing scheme that incurs the lowest cost is to recruit dedicated volunteers. However, this is only really feasible if you are going for a low-resource option i.e., not managing all the booking and billing of the scheme, and you have very committed and reliable volunteers.


Paid staff

If you want to manage the whole scheme, it is likely you will need a paid member of staff to manage the day-to-day operations including booking and billing, maintenance and cleaning of the vehicles, customer enquiries etc. This could be a part-time role and generally would need funding to help establish the role. Longer term, the income from the scheme should go towards staff costs.
